Local SEO Audit Checklist

Check one location the way Google and your customers see it.

If a competitor with fewer reviews shows up above you on the map, reviews aren’t what’s beating you. Google ranks local results on how well a business matches the search, how close it is to the person searching, and how well known it is, and review count is only one part of the last. Check all three before deciding what to change.

This checklist walks you through all of it, one location at a time, in plain terms. It covers what people see when they ask about you in Maps: Google has been replacing the Q&A section of Business Profiles with AI answers built from your profile, your photos and your reviews.

What the Checklist Covers

  • Your Google Business Profile, including the details Google’s AI answers draw on
  • Your listings beyond Google: Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp and your industry’s directories
  • Your location page, and why a page that only swaps the city name works against you
  • Where you actually show up, checked from where your customers search
  • Your reviews, and the rules Google and the FTC set for asking
  • Local links and mentions
  • Tracking calls, directions and bookings for each location

Run it for one location first. If you have more than one, run it again for each: every location is ranked on its own.
